Here I am in United’s Red Carpet Club lounge at LAX. After a nightmare trip from New York (almost 36 hours since I left Stella’s house in Philadelphia to go to JFK, I should have been home about 7 or so hours ago) it’s time for a splurge.  It’s a lot better than the bar  in Terminal 7, which no doubt will be full of people watching Monday Night Football. How revoltingly hetero! 😉

Flight is on time, so all being well in a couple of hours I’ll be airborne and on the way home, 24 hours late.

It’s been a wonderful time. I’m so glad that I made the trip to experience Kristina in English. It was simply superb. Thanks honey for encouraging me to come. Thanks to Benny, Björn, Meryl and Christine for looking stunned when encoutered by our group at the lift backstage in Carnegie Hall (I haven’t posted that story yet). Thanks Görel and Lars for being surprised that someone wanted an autograph and photo (gosh there are some stories I haven’t posted yet). Thanks Helen for being so gracious. Thanks Jason for talking me in to going to the reception, even though you only stayed for two drinks (the most expensive two drinks ever). Thanks CMP for those lovely days we had wandering the streets and visiting various sites. Thanks Stella and Rob for a fun Saturday night, breakfast and that long, long, long drive on Sunday. Thanks to everyone that I met up with in New York. To those friends that I know where there that I missed, I’m so sorry, I would have loved to have seen you. To friends back home why weren’t you posting comments about how jealous you all were 😉 ? (aside from Rina).

In HollywoodWell here I am on my enforced layover in LA. Didn’t want to spend the day at the hotel, and there’s nothing around LAX, so I caught a cab in to Hollywood.

Had a wander around the Chinese Theatre, the Kodak Theater (where the Oscars are held), the Hollywood & Highland Center and the Hollywood Blvd area around there.

One of the things I wanted to do on this trip was look for a few particular CDs and books, so I caught another cab to the nearest Borders (at Sunset and Vine). The only CD they had that I wanted was the only one I’d found in New York. Got a couple of books though.

Funny story: I’m in the cab on Hollywood Blvd stopped at traffic lights and see my friends Matti and Bec from Brisbane (Australia), who had also been in New York for Kristina. Had a quick chat before the lights changed. They were on the way to do a bus tour, I didn’t have time.

Unfortunately the talent scouts didn’t spot  me. Their loss.

Due to either several issues at JFK or just one but several cover up stories the plane from JFK to LA was very very very very late and missed the connection to Sydney. By 6 hours. So I’m having an unexpected layover at the Hilton LAX. Now it’s time for bed (it’s nearing 5 am for fuck’s sake!). Dunno what tomorrow will bring. Or should I say later today.

I’m leaving today Sunday, 27 September 2009

Here I am at JFK all checked in, through security (argh!), and having a beer in the Sapphire Lounge waiting for my (delayed) plane to LAX and on to Sydney. Ah what a fucking week! P.S. This is my first blog post from my mobile phone.

Stella with MGDSo now I’m in Huntingdon Valley PA (in Philadelphia) visiting my Australian friend Stella. She’s on a posting over here for three years, so I haven’t seen here since she made a trip back to Sydney several months ago.

Lots of fun to catch up with her. We’re having a few drinks and laughs and called a couple of friends back home in Sydney, the first of which at about 5.40 am Sunday local time. He he he :-).

After a final meet up with Norma (Australia) this morning at Ben Ash I caught the train from Penn Station to Trenton NJ. Penn Station was a little overwhelming if you’re not used to it. Platforms aren’t announced until 10 minutes or so before the train is due. Slightly stressful when you don’t know what to expect. I asked the Customer Service attendent where to go, he told me to watch the departures board. But it was no drama in the end, and the train trip through the wilds of New Jersey was pleasant and uneventful.

Tonight we’re going to a party. Sounds like a fun way to spend my last night in America before returning home tomorrow. I can’t believe that the trip is almost over already. It’s been an amazing time.

Times SquareAfter an action packed, event filled and stupendously fun week my time in New York is coming to an end.

Tonight met up with friends Ron (New Jersey), Gareth (Wales) and Peter (Ireland) for dinner at Redeye Grill, across from Carnegie Hall.

After dinner I went for a walk down 7th Avenue to Times Square to experience all those lights one more time. Stopped off a couple of times for a beer and to soak in a little more New York atmosphere.

Tomorrow I’m off to Philadelphia to visit my friend Stella from Australia, who is there for three years.

Kristina fans you have to watch this. Thanks Peter for posting that.

Strawberry FieldsA much quieter day today after the last extremely hectic but wonderfully fabulous two days and nights. Met up with Magnus for a walk through Central Park. Just wandered along the paths with no particular place to go.

Stopped off in Strawberry Fields just to sit and relax and watch the world go by.

Afterwards we headed down to the Edison Coffee Shop (locally nicknamed the Polish Tea Room and popular with theatre types) near Times Square to meet up with Elisabeth Vincentelli, who wrote a book about ABBA Gold a few years ago that we both contributed too. Though we’d only just met we were chatting away like old friends.

A quieter day today so far after last night’s Kristina concert experience (more on that later). Earlier met up with a group of fans who were off to take the Staten Island Ferry. Then met up with Dora (Florida), Laura (New York), Mikey (US, lives in Abu Dabi), George (Austrlian lives in Japan) and a friend of Dora’s (sorry forgot her name, will have to get that later from D). Went to Virgil’s Real Barbecue, a placenear Times Square  that Dora had recommended for its Trainwreck Fries (which were delicious as she’d said). A nice fun but not too hectic afternoon. Sorry forgot to take photos.
